Are you experiencing a creative block? Looking for a way to decrease stress and anxiety? Feeling isolated and looking for support in a judgment-free setting? Are you interested in getting to know yourself on a deeper level through your art?
This open studio art therapy group is for adults of all genders ages 21+ and focuses on removing judgment and expectations from the art-making process to allow for deep and authentic self-expression and reflection. It is perfect for those looking for a community, a space to create freely, and an opportunity to consider the deeper meaning of their artwork. Join us and benefit from the healing power of art-making, letting go of expectations and perfection, and witnessing yourself and your peers create authentically.
The format of the group will be:
-Intention: we will begin with a grounding practice and set an intention for your art-making.
-Art-making: we will then move into art-making; we will use a different set of materials each week (possibilities include: acrylic paint, watercolor, clay, colored tape, oil pastels, soft pastels, markers, pencils, paper and collage).
-Witnessing: after art-making, group members will witness their own artwork by writing a letter to their artwork, or writing a stream of consciousness about their art.
-Optional Sharing: the group will then have the opportunity to read their witness, or share about their art process/experience. Other group members will be asked to refrain from responses or comments on others’ artwork and/or sharing.
-Closing: we will close with a grounding practice and revisit intentions.

Working in Healthcare can be exciting, meaningful, life-changing and it can come with emotional, mental and physical costs. Self-care is the foundation of the care we offer others, and yet many healthcare workers (and the organizations we work for) undervalue the need to take time for self-expression, restoration, and shared witnessing in community with other people who understand the unique challenges of this field.
This group is designed for supporting healthcare workers (including mental healthcare) and other front-line workers with creative practices to:
• Reduce burnout and create safe space in your environment
• Express and release difficult experiences
• Make time for your full self and rebuild a healthy relationship with your "why"
Weeks 1-5 will utilize art therapy as a modality for: setting intentions, processing difficult interactions, setting healthy boundaries, creating safer spaces, and cultivating resilience.
Weeks 6-10 will invite us to dive deeper utilizing art therapy to explore questions such as: grief, trauma exposure, navigating overwhelm and burnout, and envisioning a healthcare system that works for everyone.
Facilitated by Lauren Chester, MPS, ATR-BC, LCAT (she/they)
